SUNCAT Blog

SUNCAT is the Serials Union CATalogue for the UK research community.

SUNCAT is a free EDINA service enabling researchers, librarians and others to locate serials held in libraries throughout the UK. The catalogue contains information on both print and electronic serials, including journals, periodicals, newspapers, newsletters, magazines, annual reports and other publications of a continuing nature.

SUNCAT currently contains serials' information from over 70 UK research libraries, including the British Library and the National Libraries of Scotland and Wales. New libraries continue to be added to the catalogue on a regular basis.

New SUNCAT User Satisfaction Survey

Last year we asked you about your use of SUNCAT. We thank all of you who responded to this survey, with the results having fed back into the service. This year we are asking some slightly different questions and value any responses we receive so that we can continue to evaluate and develop SUNCAT to meet our users' needs and expectations. The survey has 10 questions and should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
We would not only appreciate your comments but would also encourage you to circulate the survey details as widely as possible, to library staff and particularly to end-users. Thank you in anticipation.

Feeback wanted on guide to integration of SUNCAT

Back in July of this year a guide was produced highlighting how to integrate SUNCAT into your library website and services. SUNCAT would be very interested to hear back from anyone who has implemented any of the suggestions to find out:

- What you did?
- How it's working?
- Have you experienced any problems?
- Is anything further we could do to help?
- Any feedback you have in general.

If you have any feedback please contact Zena Mulligan at zena.mulligan@ed.ac.uk or via the EDINA helpdesk at edina@ed.ac.uk.

BGS – now part of NERC

Records in SUNCAT listed under the British Geological Survey are now being loaded as part of NERC: Natural Environment Research Council. NERC incorporates British Geological Survey, Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, and British Antarctic Survey. There are two non-UK locations for British Antarctic Survey (BAS) – Bird Island in South Georgia and Rothera in Antarctica!

"Nacreous Clouds above Rothera Base" by Jade Berman (divedivajade).

One title held at Rothera is 'Annals of Glaciology'; two titles held in South Georgia are 'CCAMLR statistical bulletin', and 'CCAMLR science'. Luckily, you don't have to travel to either library to get hold of them, as there is another copy held in the BAS main library in Cambridge!

Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Edinburgh Merge

Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) has combined with the University of Edinburgh's School of Arts, Culture and Environment to form a new and enlarged ECA as part of the University. The ECA Library at Evolution House has now become a site library of Edinburgh University Library and so all the ECA’s serial records in SUNCAT now appear as Edinburgh University records, although they will have ECA locations.
